Functionality

Engineering Village is an intuitive and easy to use tool for searching the Compendex database. It offers 4 search modes to allow users of all levels to get the most out their searches.

Search Modes

Easy Search provides users with a simple single search box that most web users are accustomed to using on the major commercial web search engines.

Quick Search offers users a number of field restrictions to add more precision to their searches.

Expert Search is for advanced users who would like to use Boolean logic to create complex search strings.

Thesaurus Search allows advanced users to build their searches by selecting terms from the Compendex controlled vocabulary.

Results
Search results are returned in lists which can be sorted by relevance, date, author, source publication or publisher. Data facets are displayed at the right of all result lists, showing counts of the most frequently occurring values within result lists. Facets can be used to further refine results.

Records
Records show abstracted summaries of the document along with the index terms applied to them. Where available, records carry links to full-text documents on publisher websites. A document deliver link is supplied with all records allowing users to request any document they wish to acquire.

Search Histories
Every search performed during your session is recorded within your search history, so you can re-run a previous search or even combine several searches.

Can I set up alerts?
At this time, you can not set up email alerts on Engineering Village Day Pass. Alerts are offered only with institutional subscriptions.

Does Engineering Village search the internet?
Engineering Village does not search the internet. It searches data from the Compendex database which is the most comprehensive and reliable database of engineering publication. There are many tools which search the internet, however we believe those tools lack the precision and authoritativeness of Engineering Village.
